This is the Midi Version of the SDS1000 module (hence the M in the title), that was designed with Midi In/Out - SO, with this brain you can also use your Simmons kit to trigger more modern sounds from DAW's, etc.
Includes rack mounts on sides (which are easily removable if desired)
Controls for each drum: Sensitivity / Filter / Pitch / Bend / Hit Samples / Body / Decay / Noise / Click
Save programs/patches. Trigger LEDs for each drum. Drums can be triggered by a sequencers, trigger pads, etc."

"Excellent condition for a vintage unit (1985). 2 channel “tom” unit, which can make a variety of drum sounds (bass, snare, electro percussion, white noise hi-hats, etc).
A small Simmons drum expander unit that complements the SDS 400 or 800, or any other electronic drum setup. 1/4" trigger inputs and 1/4" audio output for each sound. Attached and grounded 120V power cord, power switch, and headphones jack (1/4"). Triggerable using a voltage or sound source, it has a controller for trigger sensitivity with adjacent red led that lights up when triggered. Sound shaping controls arethe same for each channel as can be seen in the pictures. With all those controls, a complex range of sounds can be produced. The unit has been tested triggered with drum pads or the sound output from another drum machine. I did notice that the trigger sensitivity for tom 1 was a little more sensitive than tom 2, that is, I had to increase the trigger sensitivity controller more for channel 2 than channel 1 (~ ¼ of a turn) to obtain the same sound from both channels when their other controllers were set to identical values."

"Simmons was a pioneering British manufacturer of electronic drums founded by Dave Simmons, that supplied electronic kits from 1980 to 1994. The drums' distinctive, electronic sound can be found on countless albums from the 1980s. Introduced in 1986, the SDS-1000, and was a slim 1U, MIDI-enabled, rack mountable unit. The snare sounds, were more realistic and clear than the previous models. The SDS-1000 also included a "second skin" feature, which emulated the sound of dual-headed drums."

Classic 80's Simmons SDS9 Electronic Drum Brain Unit

"It has individual outputs for each sound and trigger inputs with knobs for adjusting sensitivity. It has mono/stereo outputs. There is midi in/out and a separate input for a sequencer, likely a dedicated Simmons one. The Simmons sound is well known from the 80's. The SDS9 has 6 instruments, with Snare / rim which can be mixed together.
The cool thing about this unit is the filters for the snare. It can be tweaked so they sound like strange analogue-sounding squeals and wooshes, the filters are all analogue as far as I can tell, the knobs are fully adjustable, in other words tweaking is infinite. A tiny tweak makes a huge difference to the sound. The user kits can be saved away in the memory. Not sure if the memory battery needs changing or not though after all this time... The unit features a door that covers the Simmons Sound eProm chips. I have seen other proms on Ebay and not sure but I think that you can swap them out for other eProm based sound sounds (Linn Drum etc?)..."

Simmons SDS 8 Drum Synthesizer

"This is a Simmons SDS-8 analog drum machine from 1983. The sound is very similar to its brother unit the SDS-V. The Simmons machines were meant to be played w/ drum pad triggers. This machine does not have MIDI or a built in sequencer. Besides electronic drum pads... this machine can also be triggered with other analog control such as GATE triggers and plain audio as a trigger.
It is common that people who own devices such as the Roland TR series or Yamaha RX series drum machines use the individual outs of their machines to control Simmons units. The synthesis on these types of machines is much more flexible than the average drum machine of the 80's era."

"The SDS-8 brain (115V US) is highly versatile and can be used with Simmons or alternate dynamic (5mV - 1.5V) drum pad units with 1/4" mono trigger leads. The control module has individual channels for a bass drum, snare, high, medium and low toms. Each with a factory pre-set sound and a programmable option which enables drummers to create their own unique sound - with 'infinite' possibilities - via the six variable controls (per input); including pitch, filter, balance, bend, click and decay. A stereo mixer is built into the synthesizer, along with 5 individual audio outputs for maximum flexibility."

Simmons SDS 8

"The Simmons SDS 8 sounds can be tweaked from the factory presets that were famous in eighties records, to sounds replicating a Roland tr 808 or 909. So if its fat kicks or crisp hi end percussions sounds your looking for this is the unit for you.
Triggering the module can be achieved by either trigger outs on a drum machine ( I use a tr 606 and 626) or you can plug in pads or contact mics in order to trigger the sounds."
