Clavia Nord Modular Synthesizer

via this auction

"This is the rarest of the Nord synths and by far the most flexible. This is a solid metal construction, Swedish made, digital analog modelling synth with 18 knobs assignable to any sonic parameter.

It's sonic architecture is based on analog modular synthesizers. You use a computer editor (that communicates via midi with the Modular) to build patches from scratch from components like Oscillators, VCFs, LFO's etc. These are patched together just like with a modular synth in whatever order you'd like. It is so much more flexible than most digital and analog synths because you are not limited in the amount of each module you can use. For example, you can build a patch with 6 LFOs, 4 sequencers, and 5 VCFs if you want AND you can use all inputs and outputs of the modules to carry sounds or effect them. These patches can all be saved on the Modular so you don't need a computer for live performance. Oh yeah, and it has 4 assignable outs and stereo inputs for everything from filtering to vocoding."
