OBERHEIM MATRIX 6 SYNTHESIZER W ORIG TAPES

via this auction
"VINTAGE 1985 OBERHEIM MATRIX-6 SYNTHESIZER (SERIAL #7714497) WITH TWO ORIGINAL DATA SOUND CASSETTE TAPES AND POWER CABLE

THIS IS THE CLASSIC 1980'S OBERHEIM - THE SYNTHESIZER THE COMPANY PRODUCED TO OFFER THE HUGE ANALOG SOUND OF THE MATRIX 12 AND OB SERIES (OB-X, OB-Xa, OB-8) SYNTHS AT A MORE AFFORDABLE PRICE WITH THE ADDED FEATURE OF TOTAL STABILITY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN OBERHEIM'S ILLUSTRIOUS HISTORY. UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS, MORE EXPENSIVE OBERHEIMS, THE MATRIX-6 WAS BUILT TO LAST AND IS EMINENTLY ROAD-WORTHY - FILLING A VOID IN OBERHEIM'S PRODUCT LINE.

ONE OF THE "HEADLINE" FEATURES OF THE MATRIX-6 IS IT'S "SPLIT " & "LAYER" MODES. IN EITHER OF THESE MODES, THE MATRIX-6 BECOMES "TWO SYNTHESIZERS IN ONE" DUE TO IT'S ABILTY TO ALLOW THE USER TO PLAY TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PATCHES AT ONCE, EITHER LAYERED ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER OR SPLIT HARD LEFT AND RIGHT. FOR EMULATING CLASSIC OBERHEIM "EVS" TYPE SOUNDS, THE USER WOULD LAYER TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT PATCHES ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, RECREATING THE EVS'S ABILITY FOR INDIVIDUAL VOICE VARIATION IN THE PROGRAMMING. IN "SPLIT" MODE, THE USER CAN RECREATE ALL OF THE ANALOG FATNESS AND AGGRESSION OF THE "OB" LINE PREDECESSORS BY SPLITTING TWO DIFFERENT PATCHES THAT ARE SIMILAR, BUT NOT IDENTICAL. THINK BACK TO THOSE INCREDIBLY FAT & MONSTROUS VAN HALEN & PRINCE ANALOG KEYBOARD SOUNDS!

WHILE THE MATRIX-6 IN "PATCH" MODE CERTAINLY SOUNDS AWESOME, THE MAXIMUM POWER COMES IN WHEN IT IS USED TO COMBINE MULTIPLE SOUNDS - THAT'S WHERE THIS UNIT REALLY SHINES. THIS SYNTHESIZER IS CAPABLE OF RECREATING ANY OF THE ICONIC OBERHEIM AND ROLAND KEYBOARD SOUNDS THAT BECAME INDUSTRY STANDARD MUSICAL LEXICON IN THE 1980'S. ANOTHER OF THE "UNIQUELY OBERHEIM" INGREDIENTS FOR PRODUCING FAT ANALOG SOUNDS IS THE "MATRIX MODULATION" SECTION. THIS CAPABILITY ALLOWS PATCHES TO BE CONSTANTLY "MOVING" IN A MYRIAD OF DIFFERENT WAYS - IN FACT THIS IS THE ABILITY THAT SEPARATES "LIVING, BREATHING ANALOG" FROM STATIC DIGITAL. WHILE THE MATRIX-6 HAS DIGITALLY CONTROLLED OSCILLATORS (DCO'S), THIS EXTENSIVE MODULATION CAPABILITY REALLY BRINGS THIS SYNTHESIZER TO LIFE.

THE FACE OF THE MATRIX-6 IS COVERED WITH A THIN MEMBRANE (NO DUST IN THE POTS - EVER!) AND PROGRAMMING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY MEANS OF A KEYPAD - THIS PARTICULAR UNIT'S TOUCH PAD'S ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND THE KEYBOARD ACTION ALL FEELS GREAT AND FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY. THIS KEYBOARD IS EQUIPPED WITH THE CLASSIC OBERHEIM PITCH AND MODULATION LEVER CONTOLLERS, WHICH ALSO FUNCTION PERFECTLY."
